Online Grocery, Buy Good on CityGrocery

What not to Buy Online

Although the allure of online shopping convenience is great and tempting, consumers must not always turn to the Internet when they find it necessary to buy something. If you are the type who logs on and surfs towards the nearest virtual store when you want to buy anything, then you need to take a pause for a while and consider these tidbits of information. Not all things should be bought online, you know. A few of these are prescription drugs, electronics, and groceries. Read on to find out why.

First on the list are prescription drugs. These should never be bought online for a good number of reasons. First and most important reason of all is your safety. Perhaps you’re aware that there is a huge market out there selling fake goods to unwary shoppers, right? Well, prescription drugs are right there on the list. However, these items are far more dangerous to buy than the regular counterfeit jeans or fake designer handbags. At the very least, they’ll be sugar pills that contain no active ingredients. At worst, you’ll be getting medication that could be expired or contain improper dosages.

Buying electronics online should have you thinking twice, too. This is especially true for fragile and valuable stuff like plasma TV sets and similarly expensive appliances. Think about it. When you go to your local electronics center and buy a gadget or an expensive TV, you are there to ensure that the delivery guys will handle your items carefully, from the store right down to your living room. But can you say the same thing when buying online? You can never be sure that the truck they used to deliver your plasma TV is not also hauling a batch of canned goods or worse.

What’s more, you will never find it easy to track down who’s to blame for the damage to your electronic items. Online retailers are notorious for pointing the finger at others, most likely the shippers. It’s frustrating and not worth the savings, in my opinion. Lastly, it’s never a good decision to buy expensive equipment unseen, which is what you’re doing when you buy electronics online. Some things, like the quality of the sound from the speakers, or the vivid colors of the TV screen, are better judged when you’re physically present, not just viewing them on the retailer’s website.

Groceries are another great example of what not to buy online, not when you can help it. The savings are practically thrown out the window when you purchase your groceries from a virtual supermarket. You’re paying a premium for the convenience you enjoy, you see. Some stores add $12 to $15 to your bill for the delivery charges, and that eats away at the savings you’re supposed to get.

Veteran shoppers also know that one of the great things about shopping for groceries is the coupon. The value of the coupon in grocery shopping is sometimes underestimated. Manufacturer coupons can save you up to 40% of your grocery bill if used wisely. However, that option goes right out the window when you do your shopping online. And forget about the great supermarket specials, either. Cut-price meats, discounted dairies, and other great steals are impossible to get when you’re online.
